Who We Are:
We are the only nurse-midwifery
service in Wilmington. We work in close association with our
physicians to provide safe, comprehensive and individualized
care for women across the lifespan.
Our Philosophy:
We believe that pregnancy,
birth and menopause are normal female physiologic and
developmental processes. We believe in the empowerment of women
as partners in health care. We believe in family centered and
personalized care for all women

Profiles
Mary McBride, MSN, CNM
Mary is a native of
Connecticut. She has lived in the south since 1970 and has been
a nurse since 1974. She became interested in nurse-midwifery in
the early 1970's. She has worked in women's health care since
1981. Mary received her Master's of Science degree in
Nurse-Midwifery from the Medical University of South Carolina.
Her special interests include helping women achieve their
desired birth experience and helping women breastfeed
successfully. She is married and has two children. Mary has been
with Coastal AHEC since 2002.
Suzanne Wertman, MSN, CNM
Suzanne has been working in
women’s health since 1987, when she became a peer health
educator in college. She is originally from upstate New York,
but has lived in Philadelphia, San Francisco and the U.S. Virgin
Islands. Suzanne received her bachelor’s degree in biology from
Mount Holyoke College and her bachelor’s and master’s in nursing
from the University of Pennsylvania. She enjoys helping women
and their families as a midwife and believes in a woman’s
ability to reach her full health potential before, during and
long after pregnancy. Suzanne also completed training as a doula
trainer and a lactation counselor. She is married and has one
son.
