Careers and Minority Workforce Development

Through programs targeted to students, parents, educators, and health and human service professionals in
Southeastern North Carolina, SEAHEC seeks to provide information, access and education in the areas of health careers, minority workforce development and diversity training.
SEAHEC collaborates with the North Carolina Public School System and the North Carolina AHEC system to offer a variety of programs which can be tailored to meet the needs of individuals and organizations.

Manual
A useful publication highlighting descriptive information on over 85 health occupations. This guide groups related careers under separate sections, listed in alphabetical order. For each career listing, readers can get not only a job description, but an overview about the career's educational programs, high school preparation, academic requirement, areas of specialization, salary information, work environment, and professional associations. Additionally, there is a section providing information on financial aid options, as well as other useful information about educational programs and locations.

Taking Your
Place: Exploring Science and Health Careers
This
weeklong summer program is for current seventh and eighth graders
interested in exploring a career in the health science industry.
This hands-on experience provides an opportunity to look at a variety of
science and medical careers and to learn what skills are needed to
prepare for these careers. Faculty from UNCW and Brunswick Community
College in addition to professional health care providers. Topics
include chemistry, medical technology, bio-medical equipment and more!
Session 1
meets June 26-30, 2000 from 9-3:30pm at SEAHEC, UNCW and NHHN.
Session 2
meets July 10-14, 2000 from 9-3:30pm at Brunswick Community
College and UNCW.
Tuition is
provided through a grant from the North Carolina AHEC Program.
